It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

What Am I Reading Now

As I finished two books this morning (one book, one audio) and haven't decided what is next, I'm only reading one book at the moment - feels very strange!

Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen. I think I am enjoying this more than any other Jane Austen I've read. I watched the movie (Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant one )the last week and I have the BBC mini series to watch as well.

What I read last week.

Three finishes this week! Goodreads now tells me I am only one book behind schedule to read the 100 I want to get through this year.

So Much For That - Lionel Shriver. On the eve of leaving his old life behind - including wife and children if they don't want to come - Shephard is told his wife has cancer. All plans are put on hold as instead they battle the cancer with inadequate health insurance.
Shriver is never a comfortable read, but always compelling. For the most part this is a depressing book, but in the last 50 pages it changes completely. Well worth sticking with it to the end.

The Household Guide to Dying - Debra Adelaide. I found it interesting that at the same time I was reading a book about someone battling cancer (So Much For That), I was also listening to one about someone dying from cancer. Two very, very different books about the same topic. This was lighter and a lot less depressing than So Much For That, but just as thought provoking.

The Bookstore - Deborah Meyler. I picked this up on due to a Monday post. Wish I could remember who is was because I loved it. Thoughtful and intelligent chick lit!

So what are you reading this week? Let me know!

What Am I Reading Now

Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen. My attendance at the gym last week was minimal to say the least. I went once and it was a weights day so no reading on the treadmill for me. Hoping for a better week this week.

The Household Guide to Dying - Debra Adelaide. You know you are enjoying an audio book when you look for ways to stay in the car longer. This week is the last week of school and I know the chances of me listening to this over the holidays is minimal. I don't think I will finish it this week, but I wish I could - I'm really enjoying it.

So Much for That - Lionel Shriver I really enjoy Shriver's writing. I don't know if you can say you enjoy her books as they often deal with difficult subjects. This looks at a man and his wife's journey through the American medical system as she battles cancer with insurance that doesn't cover all it should. Engrossing.

What I read last week.

One finish this week, although I've yet to post a review.

The Carnivorous Carnival - Lemony Snickett. The kids and I managed to knock this off this week. We won't start the next one until after the school holidays. (this week is the last week of term 1 - yay!) Hopefully I will get a review up this week.
The Freeing of Jonathon Mark - Nathan Gross
I actually finished this a couple of weeks ago but was able to post my review of it this week as part of a virtual tour for it. Not a bad book, worth checking out.

I gave up on...

Tiger Lily. A quarter of the way through the book and it still hadn't grabbed me so I returned it to the library. Maybe the next person who borrows it will have more luck.

So that was my week. How was yours?

What Am I Reading Now

The Carnivorous Carnival - Lemony Snicket. Still going. Started disc 3 of 4 this morning.

Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen. When I'm on the treadmill or bike at the gym I like to read. I can't listen, my mind wanders too much. It has to be on my kindle and it has to be something I have to concentrate on or the time drags. Austen makes me concentrate and it fulfils not only my goal of reading all of Austen, but is one of the books in my 5 from forever challenge this year. Expect to see this one on the what I am reading now list for awhile!

Tiger Lily - Jodi Lynn Anderson. I started this this morning. I borrowed it from the library after reading about it on someone else's Monday post. YA so it shouldn't take me too long.

The Household Guide to Dying - Debra Adelaide. So I was cruising the library digital collection looking for an audio book and came across this. I vaguely remember reading something about it so decided to take a chance - so glad I did, I'm really enjoying it.

What I read last week.

Three finishes this week - click on the links to read my reviews.

The Pillars of the Earth - Ken Follett. So after I posted last week, I did exactly what I said I was going to do and concentrated on finishing this - excellent book although reviews are very polarising - either loving or hating it. I loved it.

The Radleys - Matt Haig. Another book I picked up after a Monday post. Let's just say I'm glad I got it from the library and didn't buy it.

Lexicon - Max Barry. I've had this on my kindle for awhile. Wondering what took me so long to read. Totally brilliant.

So that's my week. There was no TED Talks Tuesday last week, but hoping to get one up tomorrow. What are you reading this week? Leave me a comment and let me know!

What Am I Reading Now

The Carnivorous Carnival - Lemony Snicket. Kids got a little bit reinvigorated with this one this week. Travelling quite nicely now.

Pillars of the Earth - Ken Follett. We went camping on the weekend so I got through a fair chunk of this. Plan to finish it this week - possibly today if I ignore a bunch of other stuff that needs doing!

What I read last week.

Two finishes this week.

Breath - Tim Winton - I finished this audio book. The narrator was Dan Wyllie - an excellent Australian actor. I found his voice for the main character - a teenage boy, perfect. However his portrayal of an American woman was shocking! I suppose with an audio book you have to take the good with the bad, it's just with this one the good was so good you started to think you were really listening to the character, that they were a real person telling you their story and then you would be jarred out of that by a the really bad female American voice. It was still worth the listen though.

The Royal Ranger - John Flanagan - The final in the excellent young adult fantasy series, Ranger's Apprentice. The good news is Flanagan has already created a spin off from the series called Brotherband that I am looking forward to getting into. If you have a 10-12 year old in your life that likes reading, I highly suggest these books, especially for boys (although I know plenty of girls who love them too!)

Did you check out my TED Talks Tuesday last week? I hope so. Check back tomorrow for another amazing TED Talk - don't know which one yet as there are so many amazing ones to choose from!

So how was your week? Leave me a comment and a link - I'd love to know what you've been up to!

What Am I Reading Now

The Carnivorous Carnival - Lemony Snicket. Slow going with this one. A crazy schedule means I don't have all the kids as frequently as I did last year.

Breath - Tim Winton. So close!!! I find myself driving the long way to and from places just to be able to listen to some more!

Pillars of the Earth - Ken Follett. Having started this in hard copy, I'm pleased to report I have a new Kindle and downloaded this immediately! I had to take a break from it to read a book for a book tour, but am really looking forward to getting back to it.

What I read last week.

Only one finish this week and I can't even post a review of it yet! I finished reading my review copy of The Freeing Of Jonathon Mark for a book blog tour. My stop on the tour is March 25 so you will have to wait until then to find out what I thought!

What Am I Reading Now

The Carnivorous Carnival - Lemony Snicket. We've only just started this in the car - so far so good!

Breath - Tim Winton. Having finished The Turning last week, this is my new adult audio in the car.
The Science of Fear - Daniel Gardner. I first spotted this from another blogger who participates in this meme. Sounded good, so I borrowed it from the library. I think it has the potential to be interesting, but I'm not sure I'm in the right head space at the moment. We'll see how I go.

The Help - Kathryn Stockett. I am about half way through this on my kindle and loving it! Unfortunately I broke my kindle yesterday so am totally bereft!

Call the Midwife - Jennifer Worth. This is what I picked up to console myself when I broke my kindle. Loving it as well.

What I read last week.

I didn't have a bad week for finishes this week - 2 - although it might have been 3 if I hadn't broken my kindle!! (no, I'm not bitter about it at all!!)

The Turning - Tim Winton. This is Winton at his best. A collection of 17 interconnected short stories.True brilliance.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - Rebecca Skloot. Fascinating read. The medical world and anyone who has every had life saving treatment, immunisations or a variety of other medical interventions owes this woman and her cells so much!

So that's my week! I've just been on the phone ordering a new kindle from Amazon - 4 to 14 days! Hopefully it will be the 4 and I'll be able to add The Help to my finished list next week!

Did you check out my TED Talks Tuesday last week? I hope so. Check back tomorrow for another amazing TED Talk - don't know which one yet as there are so many amazing ones to choose from!

What Am I Reading Now?

With holidays over I've finally managed to get more than one book on the go! The school run gives me a chance to listen to a couple of audio books - one with the kids in the car and the other purely for me.

The Hostile Hospital - A Series of Unfortunate Events Book the Eighth - Lemony Snicket -  the kids and I have been working our way through these in the car. I didn't record any of the last year, but given I listen to them as well as the kids, I think I should!

The Turning - Tim Winton. This is my other audio for the car, continuing my love affair with Winton and his writing.

The Lost Stories - John Flanagan. Book 11 in The Ranger's Apprentice Series. The other day instead of putting my Kindle in my bag, I put my tablet in there - similar size, both have red covers and I was distracted. When I discovered my mistake I went to the library and borrowed this. My son currently has it because when he got to school this morning he realised he'd left his Kindle at home and he needed a book - aren't I a good mum?

My Brilliant Career - Miles Franklin. I'm reading this as part of my 100 Best Books List Challenge for the Australian category. I only started it this morning and am really enjoying it.

What I read last fortnight.

Missed last week, so will catch you up on my fortnight - a grand total of two books!

Shift - Hugh Howey -  this is the second book in the Silo series. Highly recommended for those who like dystopian fiction.

The Madding of Daniel O'Hooligan  - Peter Wear -  Hilarious! Very off beat. About your only chance of getting a copy of this is via Kindle, but it's well worth the $4.50.

So that's me. What have you been reading this week?

What am I reading now.

Gone Viral: The germs that share our lives by Frank Bowden
I heard the author of this on a radio program called Conversations with Richard Fidler and immediately wanted to read it. (This happens a lot with this and other ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) programs - I think I need to stop listening!) Word of warning - not for those with weak stomaches! Some of the descriptions are very graphic!

What I've  Read In The Last Week.

Hellfire and Damnation II - Connie Concoran Wilson - actually I read this one awhile ago, but the review has just been posted as part of the book tour for it. You can still enter the competition to win a digital copy just by commenting here!

The Casual Vacancy - JK Rowling

The House of Memories - Monica McInerney

What's next?

Still need to get to  A Private Life by Michael Kirby for this months book group. I also have a few library books that need to read and returned

So what are you reading? Leave me a link, I'd love to know!

What am I reading now.

The Casual Vacancy by J.K Rowling
I loved Harry Potter and was very eager to get my hands on this. I'm enjoying it - not quite as gripping as Harry, but then again, I do think that was a once in a life time thing!
What I've  Read In The Last Week.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest - Stieg Larsson (this was actually on last weeks list, but there was no review)
Close Range: Wyoming Stories - Annie Proulx

What Else is Happening?

Well after a very long break, I've finally started blogging over on my sewing blog again! Feel free to head over there and check out what I've been sewing!

Also don't forget to comment on this (or any other post) to go in the draw for the chance to win a digital copy of Hellfire and Damnation II.

What's next?

Most probably A Private Life by Michael Kirby -it's our next book group read and I'm hosting so I really should read the book!

Long, long time since I did a It's Monday! What are you Reading post. I lost my blogging mojo there for awhile, but am trying to get it back, especially as I am taking part in a book tour and giveaway soon - but more about that later!

What am I reading now.

Close Range: Wyoming Stories by Annie Proulx
At least, I think this is what I am reading now. I finished a book this morning (refused to get out of bed until I did - I love holidays!) and this was recommended by a friend, so I think I will give it a go.

Goodness! A Monday post two weeks in a row?? What is going on!

What am I reading now.

Disrupting Grace - Kristen Richburg

I read about this on a blog over a year ago and was really interested. I have only started and I'm sure it's going to be heart wrenching.

What am I listening to.

Tommo & Hawk - Bryce Courtenay

Finally made some headway with this! Really enjoying it!

 What I Read Last Week.

Pretty pathetic week really - only one finished. I went into a bit of a slump and couldn't decide what to read, so spent time listening to my audio and flicking through magazines.

The Kings of Clonmel - John Flanagan

What's next?

I have a rather impressive pile of TBR's at the moment, so I am thinking of dedicating August to them, much like I did with my library book challenge. I mean I've had some of these books since before we moved into this house, so that is over 4 years! Time to read or abandon I feel!

So what are you reading? Leave me a link, I'd love to know!

Keeping with current trends, it's been two weeks since I've done a Monday post, and even then I haven't linked the last two on Sheila's blog - will make sure I do so today!

What am I reading now.

The Kings of Clonmel - John Flanagan
Book 8 in the Ranger's Apprentice series. My 10 year old son is now reading this series and I better get a move on or he will catch up to me!
What am I listening to.

Tommo & Hawk - Bryce Courtenay

Unfortunately this seems to be heading the same way as The Potato Factory  - not much going on! My mum is visiting and I lent her my Kindle to read The Light Between Oceans so haven't been able to listen to much of this - soon, I hope!

What I Read Since I Last Posted a Monday Post!

Well, I may not be posting, but I am reading. Both Fifty Shades and Light Between Oceans made it into the last list, but I hadn't reviewed them yet, so I've included the reviews this week.

Fifty Shades of Grey - E.L James
The Light Between Oceans - M.L Stedman
Guards! Guards! - Terry Pratchett
A Suitable Boy - Vikram Seth
Between The Lines - Jodi Picoult & Samantha van Leer

What's next?

Who knows! Have a stack of stuff I need to sort through. My contract at work has ended so I am currently waiting to see if anything else pops up - in the meantime I need to catch up on some house stuff, committee stuff and just enjoy some time with my mum while she is here!

So what are you reading? Leave me a link, I'd love to know!
